Limited Net access and starting a new job has meant it has been pretty quiet on the blogging front over the last month or so.Still can't get used to the idea that I am now a permanent resident again in Ausl, now in Sydney - especially can't get used to Sydney.
3 weeks into work, and we left for a conference last week -
king size bed, ensuite spa and beach access...along with swimming,
soccer, beach cricket and a game of skirmish paint ball...I believe there was some work stuff as well....
And finally, copy and pasted by request (you know who you are):
China is a farm, a farm, a farm...
* China's crop area covers approximately three times the total size of
Thailand.
* Some 620 million Chines live in the countryside. That is about the
total number of inhabitants in the USA, Brazil and Russia combined.
* Farmers' incomes are currently growing about 6% per year. That
compares to around 7% in South Korea, but to about 1% decline in
Japan.
* China's largest single crop is rice. Corn comes second in area,
wheat in value.
* China grows one in three of the world's apples, and is the third
largest strawberry exporter.
* Every second lettuce grows in China. So do two-thirds of the world's
cucumbers.
* The People's Republic is home to 94% of global mushroom acreage.
The stuff you learn in agro endears you to all at dinner parties....
