So I applied for a permanent position where I am doing my traineeship. Went through the full recuitment process, was short-listed and finally one of the bosses came to me and told me I was the best candidate and the one that they want.

HR had different ideas. As I am considered a third-country national, flat out on principal they would not give me a contract because I am not Swiss of EU citizen. Now there are laws that govern this sort of thing, but there is also the right way to approach it. With any law there is a way to both follow it and get around it...The HR dept here don't seem to understand that.

I am quite pissed because it is a great job, pays well and is that next step in that career path y'know...So now I need to look at other options. In the mean time, the boss that wanted me has said he will endeavour to extend my current contract, change my job description so I can get some more relevant experience with more challenging work and give me more cash, so its not all bad.

I like to think that I am worldy and somewhat intelligent but am I naive when I think the best person will get the job? That if you work hard and show people what you are made of and what you can deliver that you will be rewarded? Maybe a little naive...

Quick post, mostly to check that I have switched ok to the nomadlife.

Been following the ongoing dialogues about
aiesec.ws, and have silently agreed for a long time that blogging is a fantastic tool for sharing not only the @ adventure, but also the thoughts and meanderings of brilliant people living more than an ordinary life - more and more I have to limit the time I spend reading people's blog's and get my ass back to work.

And on a lesser level, it was doing my head in waiting for the damn pages to load on @.ws...No ill will though, I wish @US all the best and hope they find a solution for the bloggers over there.

And I must say well done to the nomadlife crew - a bold move and a necessary one. Glad to be on board.

: : Maz, I am alive and well... and back on the blog... : :

Absolutely impossible to work today - construction happening right outside my door - taken the opportunity to update the blog - put in a bit of effort, mostly for my biggest fan, Mazzy who just can't get enough of my blog!

I am getting emails to see if I am dead or not because I haven't posted and I think it is making her worry.

I am alive and well Maz, and just a little bit
facetious. (I had to check the spelling and was interested by this result...

Hey,

So this is the 2nd time I start the same blog. For those who just entered:

First blog created at http://brett.aiesec.ws which was deleted for lack of postings. In my defence, the pc & network set up I had available in Paris was definitely lacking, but then so was my effort.

Ok, so I then re-posted every thing that I had put up the first time, back on the same site.

Now I am changing sites. And as my Blog is for me a record of my travels, I will cut and paste everything from the other site to this new site. Otherwise, when it is noticed that I haven't posted in 3 months, the other site may possibly be deleted again! So this is the 3rd time I am uploading the same content - argh!

I will be back dating those entries so it stays in Chronological order ;)

I am changing sites because, whilst a big fan of the AIESEC blogging network, the server is down too often and I have lost too many entries mid post and waited too long to be able to even view the site. Best of luck http://aiesec.ws, but for me, I can now be found at http://brettounet.blogspot.com

See you online!

So here goes Brett version 2.
